NH Air National Guard – 157th Air Refueling Wing, Pease Air National Guard Base – Portsmouth.
The 157th Air Refueling Wing operates from Pease Air National Guard Base in Portsmouth.
New Hampshire Army National Guard— Headquartered at the NH Military Reservation in Concord, with a training facilities in Center Strafford and at 10 other locations throughout the state. The Army and Air Guard are commanded by the
Adjutant General.
US Air Force—New Boston Air Station. The U.S. Air Force oversees the operations of the New Boston Air Station (NBAFS), which serves as one of eight worldwide Air Force Satellite Control Network Tracking Stations. It provides critical satellite command and control capability to Department of Defense and civilian satellites, NATO and other allied nations' satellite operations. NBAFS is home to the 23rd Space Operations Squadron, an element of the
50th Space Wing, headquartered at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.
US Army Corps of Engineers—Cold Regions Research Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), A major operating unit of the US Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) located in Hanover. It works in the area of environmentally sustainable development of major energy reserves beneath Alaska's North Slope, reducing freeze-thaw damage to military facilities in the northern tier and Alaska, developing more effective year-round construction methods, capitalizing on current and developing remote sensing technologies to meet management and emergency response needs and helping the nation to restore a rapidly deteriorating infrastructure.
US Army Corps of Engineers—Dam Sites (Everett & Hopkinton) The US Army Corps of Engineers oversee operations of the New England Regional Dam Sites. Two dams systems provide flood control for the Connecticut River Basin:
- Otter Brook Dam – Otter Brook
- Surry Mountain Dam – Ashuelot River
Five dams protect the Merrimack River Basin:
- Franklin Falls – Pemigewassett River
- Blackwater Dam – Blackwater River
- Hopkinton Dam – Contoocook River
- Everett Dam – Piscataquog River
- Edward MacDowell Dam – Nubanusit Brook
In addition to flood control, each dam has associated recreational sites operated by the Corps of Engineers.
US Department of Agriculture—US Forest Service, Northern Research Station/Forest Sciences Laboratory, Durham: Works to help people sustain healthy and productive forests through basic and applied research, software and tool development and delivery of information. It has four research work units, staffed by 23 research scientists and 17 support personnel based at the Forestry Sciences Laboratory in Durham and the Bartlett and world-famous Hubbard Brook experimental forests in the White Mountains. Research expertise includes silviculture, ecology, mensuration, wildlife, remote sensing, physiology, pathology, geology, biometrics, and modeling.
US Department of Agriculture—US Forest Service/White Mountain National Forest, Campton: Oversees operations and services of the White Mountain National Forest, one of the most popular in the country - with about 6 million visitors annually.
US Department of the Interior—Fish & Wildlife Service, New Hampshire is home to the regional office for the New England Region. The Central New England Fishery Resource Office and the Nashua National Fish Hatchery are located in Nashua. Five National Wildlife Refuges are located within the state: Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge, John Hay National Wildlife Refuge, Sylvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge and Wapack National Wildlife Refuge.
US Department of the Interior—National Parks Service manages two national parks in New Hampshire: a significant portion of the Appalachian Trail and the Saint-Gaudens National historic site.
US Department of Justice – Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Berlinhouses over 1,100 medium security and 128 minimum security inmates.
US Department of Veterans Affairs – operates facilities in New Hampshire.
